Story of the traveling blanket

Once upon a time a friend, we'll name him Theo, left a blanket in my car. Over the next few days I used this blanket because it was there. I was suddenly taking this blanket everywhere. Thus began the adventures of the traveling blanket.

A Cinnamon Challenge Things Later Died In...

A Cinnamon Challenge
Friday February 13, 2012
Blanket would have been scared for life if it had seen jake do the cinnamon challenge.  Cinnamon kindly provided by Ellen, this challenge went down in the green room...and it got ugly.  Some people *cough-Theo*, forgot that you couldn’t breathe normally.  So a big oh puff of cinnamon smoke exploded out of his nose.  This happened to a few more people...one threw up.  Those of us who were victorious felt a sense of pride for having conquered the challenge.  For those of us who did not make it, there was still some residue left this morning from the night of the improv show.  Something even crawled in there and died...ewww

A trip to McJunk

A Trip to McJunk
Wednesday, February 9, 2012

Why on earth would the Amnicola Hwy McDonalds be completely full on a Wednesday at 4:34pm?  Morgan and I asked ourselves this very question as we parked in one of the last parking spots left.  Baffled we walked inside trying to decide what we would get as we waited in line.  Celebratory food was indeed needed, because, as I have told just about everyone- I made a 100% on my precal test.  As we stood discussing a man informed us that Wednesday was $2 big mac day.  And like a super sized brick it hit us: That’s what had attracted so many people to this location.  They had swarmed, attracted to the big mac sauce and special containers holding the burger in place.  We each ordered one and happily took our seats.  Blanket looked at us sadly from the car.  But it just wasn’t cold enough and I believe there are some things in McJunk that if exposed to Blanket would never come out.  Theo has told me I may keep blanket until August, so with temporary guardianship I must protect Blanket.  On a side note, the man who told us about the big mac deal asked me for my phone number as we walked to our seat and when turned down, turned to Morgan.  Who does that???  Perhaps it’s just the crowd that is attracted by Big Mac day.  We sat for a while discussing the greater issues in life- religion etc.  Somehow these topics always come up in McJunk.  Such a curious thing.  Back in the car we took a picture of Blanket’s view of McDonalds.  While Blanket did not enjoy a big mac I certainly did and Blanket chilled on my lap all the way home.

Do Blankets Hate People?

RANDOM THOUGHT: Do Blankets Hate People?
February 2, 2012
We sit on them, we drag them, they are keeping us warm when we...lets call it projectile hiccuping into a trashcan.  So can blankets love us?  Or do they loathe the times they spend on our laps like a cat that doesn’t want to be held?  They keep us so warm and snug and sometimes projectile hiccuping doesn’t make it completely into the trashcan.  I can’t imagined being washed is the most comfortable thing for a blanket.  Every time they are washed they loose fluff and become a little more threadbare.  For all they give to us, do we give anything back to blankets?  I have to believe they love us just as much as we love them.  Blankets keep us warm, but without us, wouldn’t they be cold too?  They hold in heat like a furry coat and we make the heat.  It’s a mutual relationship of heat.  And over the years as they are washed I like to think that they feel like their lives mattered.  Someone loved them and kept them warm.  A used blanket means something to their owner, as opposed to a dusty moth-eaten blanket.  And, as all things fade away (I’m sure blankets have enough logic to see this), isn’t it better to love and be loved than to slowly disintegrate in a dark closet?

AIDS Awareness Day

AIDS Awareness Day
February 1, 2012
Today at school was AIDs awareness.  Our green room was taken over by blood and urine and possible HIV.  I’m not really sure why they needed to do the testing in there when there is a whole campus.  I’ve also seen people eat off those counters...I think some lysol may be in order.  Blanket was with me while we were hanging out and waiting to regain our class space.  Seconds before this picture was taken I was asked if I would like to be tested, I kindly declined.  But then again I didn’t get mono from kissing.
Sign says*STD URINE TESTING
I just noticed they're knotting up a biohazard bag in the background...

Blanket Goes to the Theatre

Blanket Goes to the Theatre
December 27, 2012
Theatres are cold.  They are cold and not cozy at all.  Remedy?  Blanket.  On Friday, a group of friends and I went to see Falsettos at The Chattanooga Ensemble Theatre.  Morgan and I shared Blanket all through the show.  Snuggled under blanket I can say my ADD did not remind me that I was cold or did I need to adjust my shirt or anything.  Under Blanket I was a head attached to a blob.  I enjoyed the show so much with my friends.  After the show while congratulating the fantastic actors, people commented on Blanket.  It’s a clever idea to bring a blanket to a theatre.  It is my belief that blankets are going to catch on very soon.  Of course this could be called a poncho, a shawl, etc.  However, the type of blankets I hope become in-style will not be a snuggie hybrid or  anything else with a ridiculously clever name or concept- like a backwards robe that’s extra long.  It will not be worn by a dog or a cat, will not be fitted, or even have sleeves.  THE BLANKET will be a blob of comfort and warmth that makes everyone feel a little less self conscious and a little more cozy.

*No blanket blob pictures at this time.  My sincerest apologies!

Blanket's First Day of School

Blanket’s First Day of School

December 26, 2012
It was so beautiful outside today.  Coats and blankets really weren’t even necessary outside.  However, inside it was an Arctic Circle.  I made two trips out to my car to get Blanket and remembered the second time what I walked all the way out there for.  Back in the classroom it was so comfy and warm.  I texted Theo to tell him just how handy Blanket had been that day.  It was today that I realized that walking around with a blanket wasn’t the most awkward thing I could do.  No, in fact I could even take it out in public and perhaps look not like a five year old with a blanket, but an intelligent person who had purposely brought a blanket with them.  The next place I would take Blanket would prove my theory right...

Blanket: In the beginning
